Ever thought you were denied housing or housing services based on your sex?
Discrimination on the basis of sex is prohibited in all aspects of housing. Sexual harassment by a housing provider or an employee of a management company is also considered a fair housing violation. If you believe a landlord or housing provider is treating you differently because of your sex, please contact Housing Counseling Services at 202-667-7006 to learn more about your fair housing rights and to get free assistance with filing a fair housing complaint.
Language Access and National Origin Discrimination
Federal and DC law prohibits discrimination in housing based on national origin. A landlord or management company cannot treat you differently or refuse to rent to you because you are from another country. Questionable practices include asking a tenant to provide extra ID to prove residency because he or she is from another country, refusing to allow translation or interpretation, denying services to those who do not speak English as their first language, or refusing to sell or lend to someone because he or she is from another country. If you believe anyone in the housing industry is discriminating against you because of your national origin, please speak up. Contact Housing Counseling Services at 202-667-7006 and find out how to protect yourself from discrimination.
