Advocates for Justice and Education, Inc. (AJE), the Parent Training and Information Center of the District of Columbia, was created in 1996 to address the grave injustices and denial of basic special education services and educate parents, and those working with parents, about the laws that govern special education and related services, and the judicial consequences that results from educational institutions’ negligence and inappropriate classification of students with disability. Since our founding almost thirty years ago, AJE has grown in size, scope of work and in our ability to meet the needs of our families. Our work began with meeting the educational needs of 16 families and today we are able to empower hundreds of families each year. This past year alone, we’ve helped over 2,000 families navigate the complex systems of education, special education, and school discipline; despite the growth, our commitment to improving the future of our children’s education has not changed.
Today, December 3rd, 2024 is Giving Tuesday, a day when we ask the community for your support so that we can keep doing our work with and for DC families. Please SHARE your #GivingTuesday plans on social media and TAG us! (@AJEDCinc on Facebook | @AJEInc on Twitter | @aje_dc on Instagram) and ASK others to Support AJE, especially during the power hours we are targeting – 12-1 pm, and 7-8 pm. Your gift, no matter the size, will directly support training, resources, legal aid, and advocacy services, to DC families thrive. Here’s how your donation can make a tangible difference:
- $15 provides training materials for 1 parent
- $25 provides access to a support group for 1 parent
- $50 provides advocacy training and coaching for 1 parent
- $500 provides 15 families with Know Your Rights training to help them effectively navigate and advocate for what their children need.
- $1,000 provides a family with free legal assistance to ensure their children’s right to a free appropriate public education.
No matter your contribution, know that EVERY dollar counts, and together, we can create lasting change.
AJE is part of the Spur Local, formerly the Catalogue for Philanthropy, and we participate in their GivingTuesday campaign which allows donors to support us without worrying about administrative fees reducing their contribution and allows every donor to help us win additional prizes as part of Giving Tuesday. A $20 donation counts as much as a $200 donation toward the Power Hour prizes and the All-Day prizes (you can learn more about the prizes here – https://www.givelocaltogether.org/prizes).
