AJE is providing a free virtual leadership development and advocacy skills training focused on Special Education, School Discipline, and School Governance with a particular focus on the needs of students with disabilities and special health care needs. The Parent Leadership Academy (PLA) is limited to 30 DC parents/caregivers in each session – we encourage you to apply immediately to ensure you are able to participate!
PLA is part of AJE’s Parent Leadership Institute and PLA participants also have the opportunity to engage with AJE’s other programs, including our school based advocacy program, Parents Building Bridges, and our work around Health Equity in DC via our Heal US, Heal DC programming.

For school year 2024 we are offering families 3 options using one application, pick the one that is best for you!
July 31th start
The 2024 Summer PLA will be held online Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00pm, between July 31st and September 25th.
October 17th start
The new fully asynchronous option will start October 17th, and offers 3 to 4 discussion opportunities a week and must be completed by December 6th.
January 13th start
The 2025 Winter PLA will use a Hybrid model and will also held online starting on January 13th from 7pm to 8:30pm on Monday evenings (due to the holiday, we will not meet January 20 and will meet on Tuesday the 21st instead). The 2025 Winter PLA’s last live session will be Monday, February 3rd which is also when the asynchronous component will conclude. AJE is offering this more intensive option to allow families a PLA that is better aligned with the DC Council’s oversight season and AJE’s other programming.
