Enrollment Update: A few spots left at free grief camp for kids this August

Navigating grief is extremely difficult, especially when you’re a child. This grief camp can be a place for children to be amongst peers who understand what they’re going though. Which is why AJE is sharing this event with our community.

Experience Camps for Grieving Children launches their newest free, one-week grief camp for kids this summer, directly serving kids from the Capital Region. Your input and perspectives are invaluable to ensuring camp is prepared to support these kids and provide them the joy and connection they deserve.

Camper spots still available for this summer – August 15-20, 2023:
Below are the camper spaces still available. While some grades are full, it’s a good idea to still apply and get on the waitlist. We always expect attrition throughout the year that may open up a camper spot. Additionally, waitlisted families get priority for next year. The grade listed below is the grade the child will be entering in the fall of 2023. Space will fill up fast so the sooner the better to apply online.

  • Boys Camper Spots Still Available:
    • 4-6th grade – Full (waitlisting)
    • 7th grade – 1 spot left
    • 8th grade – 4 spots left
    • 9th grade – 6 spots left
  • Girls Camper Spots Still Available:
    • 4th grade – 2 spots left
    • 5th grade – 2 spots left
    • 6th grade – 1 spot left
    • 7-9th grade – Full (waitlisting)

Volunteer spots still available – August 14-20, 2023 (includes one day of orientation):

Local volunteers are critical to the joy and safety at camp. Volunteers need to be 19 years old +. Direct grief or camp experience is NOT required. We ask if you are recruiting campers to also assist us in trying to recruit a few volunteers to come for the week too.

  • Only 3 male volunteer spots left!
  • Female volunteer spots are full but there is still space on the waitlist.
  • Volunteers could come from anywhere! Think about your network and who might want to hear about this opportunity:
    • A young alumni of your program who is looking to help kids coming from similar backgrounds.
    • A teacher who is off for the summer and wants to build their SEL skills working with kids.
    • Your employees, looking to use their time off to find purpose and meet other good-hearted people.
    • A college friend, looking for an opportunity to be a kid again while connecting with other adults and kids in a vulnerable space.

Know an amazing human who would be great for this opportunity? Share our website or the flyer in here.
Gender note: For all campers and volunteers, we welcome all gender identities. We will work with the family or adult to determine where they feel most comfortable and safe for the best experience possible. We do not use gender-identifying language at camp.

A reminder of what we do:
Experience Camps, founded in 2009, is a national, no-cost program for grieving children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver.  Our free one-week, overnight summer camps combine the best elements of summer camp with a clinically-informed peer support model that normalizes grief, builds coping skills and resiliency, and allows kids to connect with other kids who “get it”.
