Public Comment Opportunity – OSSE’s FFY 2025 Draft State Grant Application under Part B of the IDEA

As it has in previous years, OSSE is applying to the United States Department of Education (USED) for the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B grant for federal fiscal year 2025 (FFY25). This grant is provided by USED’s Office of Special Education Programs to support free appropriate public education (FAPE) for students with disabilities.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to make comments on OSSE’s IDEA Part B grant application and budget from March 21, until April 21, 2025. Comments may be submitted to OSSE.Publiccomment@dc.gov. The application will remain available on OSSE’s website for an additional 30 days beyond the public comment deadline until May 22, 2025.

AJE encourages interested families to review OSSE’s grant application and make public comment if they have concerns.  For context, families may want to examine the conditional approval OSSE received last year  (also available here dc-2024b-letter.enclosures).  Last year OSEP is imposed Specific Conditions on the District of Columbia’s 2024 grant awards under IDEA Part B to ensure the State “corrects its longstanding noncompliance with certain IDEA requirements”  specifically around secondary transition and timely reevaluations.
