Eagle Academy Closure

Earlier this week, Eagle Academy Public Charter School shared with families and the Public Charter School Board (“PCSB”)  that they are surrendering their charter. A copy of the letter Eagle sent families is at the bottom of this blog post. This means that Eagle Academy will not open for school on Monday, August 26 as planned.  Any currently enrolled student, or their families, who need assistance enrolling for the current school year, should call DC PCSB at 202-328-2660, or call My School DC at 202-888-6336, to learn about available school options.

Families should also remember that DCPS remains an option for families and that they have a right to enroll in their neighborhood school.  Families can find their neighborhood school here – https://enrolldcps.dc.gov/node/41.  Families of children with an IEP can ask Early Stages for additional support -https://www.earlystagesdc.org/ in finding a school able to implement the IEP (note that Early Stage’s main number 202-678-8037 is not in service at the moment).

The Public Charter School Board has also established a dedicated webpage for Eagle Academy updates  – https://dcpcsb.org/eagle-academy-pcs-updates

Several enrollment fairs are being held to help families find new schools, including one TODAY (Thursday )from 2-5 pm at Eagle Academy – Congress Heights and one TOMORROW (Friday) from 10 am -1 pm at the Eagle Academy – Riverfront.

Of course, AJE is always willing to help families navigate these decisions.  One of our favorite resources to assist with school selection is our effective questions-to-ask handout, which can help parents get a better understanding of a school’s experience and capacity so they can make an informed decision.  Families can also always contact us at 202-678-8060 or by completing this inquiry form https://www.aje-dc.org/contact-us/.  We have shared a few other resources below as well.

We also have a recording we did with MySchoolDC about navigating the lottery that families might find helpful.
