Resource – Bread for the City – committed to assisting low income Washington, DC residents

AJE is happy to share information about organizations who may be able to support the families we work with – Bread for the City – is one such organization.

Bread for the City seeks to assist DC residents with low incomes. There are a variety of programs Bread for the City offers which includes food, clothing, healthcare, social services, advocacy, and legal service resources. 

Programs:

  • Food: each month, two food pantries are stocked with groceries (fresh fruits, vegetables, meats).
  • Clothing: the clothing room enjoys more than 700 visits each month and offers attire, books, and small household items.
  • Healthcare: primary care for all ages. Services such as dental, vision, and behavioral health are provided.
  • Social Services: social workers assist in problem-solving and directing individuals to appropriate resources.
  • Advocacy: organizers join together with staff and client leaders on housing campaigns to advocate for policies that protect affordable housing in DC. 
  • Legal Service: Bread for the City’s Legal Clinic provides advice and representation in housing, family/immigration and public benefits law to DC residents living with low-incomes.
