You can still apply to DCPS and public charter schools for school year 2021-22 by submitting a post-lottery application today. Your child will automatically be added to the schools’ waitlists. Begin your school search with the School Finder or view a list of schools with short waitlists here.

Waitlists are active for the school year and do not carry over to the next year. Schools use waitlists to fill seats when they become available, and they make offers to their waitlisted applicants in the order they are listed. There is no guarantee that schools will make waitlist offers.

Remember that you can directly enroll at your DCPS in-boundary school for Grades K-12; no application is required. Locate your DCPS in-boundary school here.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month! Make sure to secure your appointments with your primary care physicians to get back on track with required pediatric immunizations and annual well-child visits for your children before school begins.

This year, the District is making it easier. Use vaccinate.dc.gov to make an appointment to get your child’s required immunizations at 37 sites across DC. You can schedule your children ages 3-18 years-old for their routine childhood vaccinations that are needed to go back to school. Appointments can be made at any of the participating school sites, regardless of a student’s school of enrollment. Additionally, you have the option to add on a COVID-19 vaccine at the time of scheduling. The COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required for eligible students, but is strongly recommended.

Reminder: DC law and regulations require all schools in the District to verify student compliance with immunization requirements as part of enrollment and attendance. For more information about the District’s Immunization Attendance Policy, please visit the OSSE website or the DC Health Immunization Program website.

Did you know that students ages 5 through 21 who are enrolled in DC public schools (DCPS or charter) or private school can ride Metrobus, Metrorail and DC Circulator to school and school-related activities for free? To be eligible, students must meet three requirements:

1. Resident of the District of Columbia
2. Age 5 through 21
3. Enrolled in an elementary or secondary public school (DCPS or charter) or private school located within the District or is a “Ward of DC” through the city’s Foster Care System.

Join goDCgo School Services on August 11 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. to get all your back-to-school transportation questions answered. In these office hours, you’ll get the chance to ask any questions you have about the Kids Ride Free (KRF) transit subsidy program, carpool options, back-to-school transportation, or any other student travel questions you may have. You need to register, but you do not need to attend the entire event. You can drop by when you have time to ask your school transportation questions.
