It’s Not Too Late to Apply for Free Access to Special Education Advocacy Training:

In partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal, The Arc is providing scholarships for eligible families of color and low-income households who reside in Comcast regions to receive free online access to The Arc@School’s Special Education Advocacy Curriculum (normally a $99 value). The scholarship application process is easy and only takes a few minutes to complete. Apply now to start learning how to navigate the special education system!

Protecting Voting and Medical Treatment Rights Through Recent Legal Advocacy:

Amidst a wave of voter suppression bills being enacted across the country, The Arc recently joined a lawsuit challenging Georgia’s law as unconstitutional and discriminatory against voters with disabilities and voters of color. Learn more about the lawsuit from The Arc’s legal director and others in a briefing hosted by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Arc also recently secured federal approval of revised crisis standards of care in Arizona, resolving a complaint filed by The Arc and partners challenging the state’s crisis standards used to allocate scarce resources during COVID-19 as discriminatory against people with disabilities.

Help Us #DemolishDisabledPoverty:

Calling all advocates! Congress must fix the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. The benefit levels and rules have not been updated for decades, forcing people with disabilities to live in poverty to maintain their needed benefits. These rules need to be changed so that people with disabilities don’t live in poverty and have the freedom to save money and marry who they love. Take action now!

Tell Congress we need to:

Increase SSI asset limits
Eliminate marriage penalties
Ensure SSI benefits lift people out of poverty
Allow people to receive help from family without being penalized

New Materials on COVID-19 Vaccination for People With IDD and Caregivers:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities has developed a new set of COVID-19 vaccine materials specifically designed for people with IDD who have extreme low literacy and their caregivers. These free materials, including a poster and social story, use simple illustrations and easy-to-read messages to explain how to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
