As many AJE families know, the COVID-19 response has delayed the release date of the Mayor’s Budget. It is now scheduled to come out this Monday, May 18th.
Because of the shortened timeline, opportunities to testify live will be very limited and all Budget Hearings will be held virtually. However, you can submit written or video testimony. The Council has shared two PDFs below with the entire hearing schedule, and how to submit testimony.
The Committee of the Whole and the Committee on Education are holding a joint hearing on the Education Budget on June 4th. Invited public witnesses will testify between 12pm and 3pm, and Education Agencies will testify between 3pm and 6pm. All hearings will be broadcast live on DC Council Channel 13 and streamed live at www.dccouncil.us and entertainment.dc.gov.
Members of the public can submit written testimony to the Committee via email or voicemail.
Please send your email to Ashley Strange at astrange@dccouncil.us and indicate that your email is testimony in the subject line. Members of the public can also provide voicemail testimony can be provided at (202) 450 -5720. Testimony received 48 hours before the hearing will be sent to all Councilmembers and the agency representative and all testimony received will be made part of the official record.

- May 18: Mayor releases her proposed budget
- May 19: Mayor’s briefing to the Committee of the Whole on the proposed budget
- May 20 – June 16: Committees hold budget oversight hearings – find the Committee hearing you are interested in here.
- June 17 – 18: Committee of the Whole two-day hearing on the entire budget
- June 23 – 25: Committee markups (our markup is June 25 from 1 – 2:30 p.m.)
- July 7: First vote on the Local Budget Act and Budget Support Act
- July 21: Second vote on the Local Budget Act
- July 28: Second vote on the Budget Support Act
