AJE was at the Wilson Building today, voicing our support for meaningful and informed parent engagement. Director of Programs and Outreach Maria Blaeuer spoke about AJE’s strong support for increased transparency in the use of taxpayer dollars in public education. We know that increased transparency makes schools more responsive and allows parents, students and the community to engage with education policy in a more meaningful way. You can find our complete testimony about the Public School Transparency Amendment Act of 2019 here, and the bill itself is here.
Remember, if you ever want to testify at the Council about an education issue, we can help you write your testimony! There are bills coming up at the Council about Dyslexia and Home and Hospital Instruction soon, and in the Spring there are agency (like DCPS, OSSE and PCSB) oversight hearings. After oversight, there are budget hearings for those same agencies. There are lots of ways for families to engage with education policy and AJE can support you throughout the process.
